Dementia is becoming more common worldwide. This Dementia Awareness training course provides skills to understand people with dementia and to care appropriately as a professional or family supporter.
By attending Dementia Awareness workshop, delegates will learn to:
- Recognize the signs indicative of dementia and mild cognitive impairment versus normal aging
- Identify and explain the benefits of early detection and diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment and/or dementia
- Discuss next steps in the diagnostic process with patients who fail a cognitive screen in a clinical setting and prompt them to complete the process
- Evaluate the behavioral, safety and functional needs of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) as part of the care planning process.
- Assess AD patient's fitness to drive.
This Dementia Awareness class is intended to meet the educational needs of primary care clinicians including internists, family physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are seeking additional education in the assessment, diagnosis and ongoing health care of patients with cognitive impairment and dementia.
