Sun Java System Directory Server - Maintenance and Operations

( Duration: 4 Days )

The Sun Java System Directory Server - Maintenance and Operations training course provides delegates with the opportunity to learn to perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting techniques, monitor and tune servers, create and manage multiple databases, and perform other tasks encountered in day-to-day operations of DSEE 6. Labs acquaint delegates with the tools included with DSEE 6. Delegates use them to perform tasks such as searching and modifying directory data, exporting and importing data, starting and stopping servers, and troubleshooting. Delegates also learn to migrate server versions, create multiple databases, configure servers for replication, and tune performance. This course focuses primarily on maintenance and operations issues related to DSEE 6 and not planning and design issues.

By attending Sun Java System Directory Server - Maintenance and Operations workshop, Participants will learn to:

  • Describe the configuration directory, key files, and common utilities related to DSEE
  • Search and modify directory content
  • Describe access, error, and audit log contents and diagnose ldapmodify LDAP Data Interchange Format (LDIF) import errors
  • Describe Directory Server access control and write access control statements
  • Use the Directory Server utilities to enforce account and password policies
  • Manage server certificates
  • Perform directory database backup and restore functions using Directory Server utilities
  • Configure and test Directory Server replication
  • Tune Directory Server performance
  • Describe and set up directory failover using Directory Proxy Server
  • Migrate directory data to Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6

  • Perform basic UNIX tasks
  • Understand basic UNIX commands
  • Describe Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) services at a high level
  • Describe features of the Sun Java System Directory Server 5.x (Directory Server)
  • Install Directory Server
